Lighting that changes how a room feels rather than just how well you can see in it. Galaxy and astronaut projectors for ceilings, moon lamps for bedsides, a levitating globe for a desk, and a rain cloud that actually rains.
All of it runs on low-wattage LEDs, all of it is remote or touch controlled, and most of it has a sleep timer — because the point of ambient light is that you fall asleep under it, not that you get up to switch it off.
How to choose
For a ceiling that moves: the Cosmos LED Galaxy Projector is the brightest, and the Astro Galaxy Projector puts the same effect inside an astronaut housing that children strongly prefer.
For a bedside: the LunaGlow moon lamp is dimmable warm light and nothing more complicated than that. Good for nurseries because there is no projection to point anywhere.
For a desk: the Orbit levitating galaxy lamp floats and spins above its base, and the Flex gooseneck lamp charges your phone from its stand.
For the trick everyone films: the Rain Cloud Mist Diffuser drips water through a cloud and glows while it does it. Whether it also works as a humidifier is a fair question, and we answer it properly in do rain cloud humidifiers actually work?
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a galaxy projector and a star projector?
A galaxy projector throws soft coloured nebula clouds across the room with a scatter of pinpoint stars over the top. A star projector usually means points of light with no clouds. Neither is astronomically accurate — that is a planetarium projector, which is much dimmer and needs a genuinely dark room. If you want a room to look different, you want a galaxy projector.
Are galaxy projectors safe for a child's bedroom?
Used sensibly, yes. Place it out of reach, point it at the ceiling rather than at eye level, run it on a low brightness, and use the timer rather than leaving it on all night. Many projectors use a small laser diode for the sharp stars, so nobody should look directly into the aperture. If you would rather avoid lasers entirely, the moon lamp is LED-only.
Do these lights get hot?
No. Everything here runs on LEDs at low wattage, so they stay cool enough to touch and to sit on a bedside table. The rain cloud humidifier uses ultrasonic vibration rather than heat, so it produces cool mist.
Which one is best as a gift?
The galaxy projectors, by a distance. They are the ones that get a reaction the moment they are switched on, and they need no setup beyond a plug and a switch. For a housewarming, the levitating lamp is the one guests pick up.
Can I use essential oils in the rain cloud humidifier?
Yes, two or three drops. It will need cleaning more often than with plain water, because oil residue builds up on the ultrasonic disc faster than limescale does.
How big a room do these cover?
All of them are designed around an average UK bedroom. In a large open-plan room the projection spreads out and dims noticeably. Ceiling colour matters too — a flat white ceiling reflects the projection cleanly, a dark or heavily textured one absorbs a lot of it.
